Postcards from Invisible

Word

Word v.X for Mac or earlier .doc, 959 kb

During his downtime on early worldwide tours with DEVO, Mark Mothersbaugh began illustrating on postcards to send to his friends and family, which he still creates, and has been creating every day for over 30 years.

It's an obsessive habit which still yields anywhere from one to a couple dozen new postcard-sized images per day.

The cards were originally created as his personal diaries, and were never intended for public viewing. That all changed when Mark decided to share his postcard works in his critically acclaimed solo shows during the 1980's & 1990's. Since then, he launched his worldwide Homefront Invasion! tour in '03, and the Visual Art of Mark Mothersbaugh tour starting in '05

Postcards From Invisible, Utah was conceived as a collaboration between Mark Mothersbaugh and Zeus Jones to showcase Mark's evocative postcard art. The narrative was created around Mark's existing imagery from the series, told by Zeus Jones in the form of postcards sent from a husband back home to his wife while out searching for their missing daughter.

The series make use of some of the lesser-known layout options available in Word such as linking text boxes and layering of elements and text.

I loved the art and loved the story. I hope we see more from this collaboration.

Turn those spiral notebooks into a book we can purchase already Mark!

As a fellow postcard addict, I encourage you to make your art into a book. We even tried to figure out how long it would take to drive to Cleveland from Worcester to see your exhibit in September. If no plans are in the works for the cherished spiral notebooks then please come to Worcester. I send ~100 postcards per month, have for about a decade, and would love to see your collection.

Beautiful!

Mark, those are incredible! Thanks for sharing. Awesome!

Don't cheapen the experience with that word file though, it's crude.
